HLTSSOOO59 VENOUS BLOOD SKILL SET

This comprehensive nationally endorsed skill set incorporates the Perform Venous Blood Collection

This skill set provides skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment, and perform blood collections, safely and effectively using venous blood collection. This skill set applies to any individual for whom blood collection is part of the job role. They may be working in collection centres, in hospitals or in other health clinical environments. Collections will include adults of varied ages and genders, adolescents and children over 5 years of age.

The skills in this unit will be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

In addition to the above skill set “Qualified Dermal Therapists and Nurses” can elect to participate in the practical applications required to collect blood and deliver Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Growth Factor “Factor4” procedures within a clinic.

Our training is unique in offering the required 35-hour practical skills placement with our industry practical training partner QML Pathology.

Optional Graduate Clinical Experience

Grayclay offers an optional Graduate Clinical Experience Program, designed for graduates  to gain additional experience practicing their skills and managing their workday in preparation for their career. Placement is conducted with “White Rooms Clinics” and students can elect to participate in an additional 40 or 80 hour block. There is no charge for this placement.

DELIVERY

Blended learning combines online and traditional classroom learning. This course consists of –

  • 28 hours self directed online learning
  • 14 hours face to face on campus delivery
  • 35 hours practical clinical placement with QML pathology
  • HLTPAT001 Identify and respond to clinical risks in pathology collection
  • HLTPAT002 Perform Venous Blood Collection
  • HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

CERTIFICATE ISSUED

Participants who successfully complete training and assessment of this course will be issued a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment in

  • HLTSSOOO59 – Venous Blood Collection Skill Set
    • HLTPAT001 Identify and respond to clinical risks in pathology collection
    • HLTPAT002 Perform Venous Blood Collection
    • HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures and QML practical competency.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS HLTSSOOO59 SKILL SET

  • Students must have access to a computer and associated technology skills
  • Students should have good English communication skills including reading, writing and talking – pre enrolment interviews will be conducted to assess Language, Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Student MUST have the ability to complete 35 hours of clinical practical placement
  • Must have a current Hepatitis B vaccination and provide evidence of immunology.
  • Must be 18 years or older and provide proof of identity using Drivers Licence or 18+ card.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS PRP AND FACTOR4 TRAINING

Students undertaking PRP and FACTOR4 Training will already hold a qualification as Division 1 or Division 2 Nursing or Dermal Therapist.
